About the practice

Looking is
a kind of making.

North Canvas Lab is a self-directed space for visual research. It brings together image-making, editorial design and short-form writing to test how ideas might be seen.

A way of working

Small questions, made visible

The lab begins with a question rather than a brief: what changes when a map is treated as a poem, when a page gives an image more time, or when a system makes space for uncertainty?

Each study is a speculative exercise, not a claim to represent a real client, place or dataset. Simple visual rules, collected references and deliberate constraints make the question easier to examine.

The work stays intentionally small. A finished page, a sequence of marks or a short note can be enough to make an idea available for conversation.
